Welcome to the new website of the Netherhall Development Fund (part of the Netherhall Education Association registered charity number 236586), launched officially on the 29th of September 2007 at Netherhall House with a gathering of supporters and former and current residents.

The NDF was set up in response to the need for extensive renovation of the house’s facilities coupled with an interest from former residents in continuing their involvement with the house and its activities after leaving. To that effect the Netherhall Development Fund has defined its aims as

  1. Supporting the structural redevelopment and maintenance of Netherhall House
  2. Supporting the activities of Netherhall House by means of grants for social projects being undertaken by current or recent residents
  3. Supporting the old residents society
  4. To enable former residents to remain involved in the cultural, educational and social activities of the house

Five main areas have been addressed as being of utmost importance

  1. The Oratory - Already over £60,000 of the money needed has been raised for this. However, it will be necessary to remove and replace the now non-operational heating system in the basement at a cost of about a further £40,000
  2. Renovation of the old block and replacement of the leaking roof - many of you will have stayed in these facilities, built in the 1960’s and will have fond memories of them. Six years ago major work was carried out to the exterior of the building, which included replacement of all of the windows with new double glazed windows. The time has now come to start work on the interior of the building.
    1. The roof is leaking and needs replacing £25,000.
    2. The heating system and plumbing is almost 40 years old. Major structural work will be required to replace it and this will involve closing off parts of the house during the process. All of the piping will need replacing, new sinks and bathrooms will need installing. Estimated cost of this project- £350,000 - in addition funds to support the running of the house whilst many rooms are closed will be needed (a further £25,000). Creation of 6 en-suite rooms in the old block.
    3. Rooms need refurbishing and the corridors need carpeting. The lack of internet connection to rooms need addressing as courses at universities become increasingly “paperless”. Estimated cost £75,000.
  3. The Auditorium- Used frequently for chamber music concerts and house concerts as well as the yearly show. Also used to host conferences. This facility has not been updated since it was built in 1965. It needs updating with new lighting, new stage facilities and improved access
  4. A minibus for house activities- £15,000 to £20,000
  5. External Maintenance to the Cottage- £40,000

Grand Total - £600,000
